I thought this week would be a good week to discuss the layout on the website, which I have been told, is "awesome" (I don't really have the exact quote, which was a review of the site from Go Gaia, which is terminally down [more often than KeenSpace!]). Frankly, the layout is pretty simple, but took me quite some time to perfect. I have always been an image map person, because before I was HTML literate (in the days of Windows '95), I was always excited to go to a webpage and click on links within an image, but highlight the image and discover that there weren't separate pictures for each link. It thrilled me, and so for the past two years, my website's title pages have always had focuses on image maps. At first, Goth Camp was no different. The menus above and below the main strip were all image maps, and it was no problem... until I came to the "first", "previous", "next", and "today" buttons. Because of the way the tags worked on the keenspace server, My layout was compeletely befuddled with misplaced HTML jargon. I was beset with much woe when I discovered the only way to fix my problem would be to make tables. Tables are more complicated than image maps, because there are more images to keep track of, but more simple than image maps, because the code tends to be easier to follow. And this is how Goth Camp's layout looks today. The layout is all made up of tables, all 550 pixels in width, and made up of only four different border images. Both menu bars are tables. The news post box is a big table. The little picture of me above this news post (Yes, for two months, I really did have green hair.) is a table within a table. The links page is a table. The archives page is a table. The characters page? You guessed it. A table. In conclusion, I live and breathe tables, but still yearn for the simpler days of image maps. Now, with the onset of Macromedia Flash, those days are soon to be gone as well. Farewell, oh internet that I once loved, and hello to... Oooh, that menu sparkles when you hover your mouse over it. I wonder how they do that?! It's just like magic. -MelMel
First off, I finally got a writing program for my computer. Before, I had just been using WordPad, because I was too lazy to actually put Microsoft Word on my PC. Now I have some free program called Open Office which is pretty nice, so don't expect too many typos in my sentences anymore. Bad Grammar and, commas, in the, wrong places will still be common place. Secondly, I hate California. In case y'all (whoa, my spell checker actually recognizes "y'all" as a word; It made me add the "'") were not aware, Melissa and I are both residents of Orange County. Yes, Orange County. Like the movie. Moving on, tomorrow at 6:15 A.M., I will be driving towards my high school to participate in the election. That means that if I do not fall asleep at the wheel and crash, I will sit around all day and “help” people vote. I truly believe that it may be the most boring day of my life. At least I get to miss school. I will most likely end up taking my lunch break and playing Tekken 3 in the local smoothie place, Juice Stop for a few hours. Thirdly, I am addicted to yet another webgame. This one is at www.battleon.com, and it's called Adventure Quest. It is extremely simple and somewhat stupid, yet for the life of me I cannot stop playing it. I don't know why. Check it out. ~The Third Stick Figure on the Left, George |
